Bazylaks of Europe

History

The Bazylaks of Canada section gives information on the various Bazylaks living in Canada, but it does not give details about the family before it arrived in Canada. That is the purpose of this page. There are still a lot of blanks in this regard, but I'll fill those in as I get more information.

The entire Canadian branch of the Bazylak family tree stems from one man, John Bazylak (my grandfather) was born in Poland but immigrated to Canada as a young man. He remained in Canada for the rest of his life.

Jojcef (Joseph) Bazylak was John's father. He remained in Poland and would be the common link between the Canadian Bazylaks and any Bazylaks in Poland.

Frank Bazylak was brothers with John. Frank remained in Poland and it is his descendants who are the only relatives that we are aware of in Poland.

Below is the information that we have regarding these three patriarchs.

John Bazylak (1898-1958)

John Bazylak
1898 - 1958
John was the second child and oldest son of Joseph Bazylak.  He was born  in December near Rzeszow Manasterz (I think), Poland.  There is some confusion about this location as there has also been mention of someplace called:  Manasterz Podkarpackie.  Right now I'm not sure if this is the same place or an area near Rzoszow or if it means anything. Thanks to email contact with some of my cousins in Poland I've figured this out. My family in Poland is spread out between Manasterz, Rzeszow, and Sanok. I think John was born in Manasterz.

John served in the First World War in the Polish army.

In 1927 he and a friend known only as Cott decided to move to Canada. For unknown reasons John moved to Saskatchewan while his friend stayed in the Toronto area. John worked at a various farms before he heard that the shoemaker in Duck Lake was retiring. He moved to Duck Lake and took over the shop. John met Mary Kulyk there and they were married in 1937. They had four children (Lorraine, Frank, Walter, and Ron) before John passed away in 1958. He is is buried in Canada.

Frank Bazylak

I know very little about Frank other than he was youngest son of Joseph Bazylak and is my father's namesake. I specifically mention him because I know that he had two  three children:  a daughter Marie, and a son named Joseph and a son named Stanislaw.

Joseph recently passed away in 2001 1999. I believe he lived his life in Sanok, Poland.

I have much more information about Frank and his decedents since I have make contact via email with many of his descendants and my cousins.

Jojcef (Joseph) Bazylak (1869-1932)

Jojcef (Joseph) Bazylak 1869 - 1932
Currently the farthest back that I've traced the Bazylak family tree is to my Great Grandpa Joseph Bazylak.

I know very little about him other than that he lived his entire life in Poland, at least part of which was spent in Manasterz near Rzeszow.

I don't know his wife's name but he did have four children.  Their names were:  Maria, Anilka, John, and Frank.  I also don't know the order of birth other than that Frank was the baby of the family and John was the second born.

I know that Joseph had brothers and sisters but I have no information about them, not even any names.

Family rumor has it that Joseph was a Police Officer.
